Cheap property in Champagne-Ardenne

Why not make a toast to a new home in Champagne-Ardenne?


Potential property buyers will be pleased to know that although the region's fine champagne comes with high price tags, its properties do not. Despite rising house prices over the last few years, Champagne-Ardenne has remained very reasonable and is in fact one of the cheapest regions in France.

People often overlook Champagne-Ardenne because it has no major cities, coastline or mountain range. However, with good transport links, it is in an excellent position to visit a great number of places in France, including Paris. For example, Reims in the Marne départment is a 1.5-hour drive to Paris, and Troyes in the Aube department takes about 2 hours. If using the Eurotunnel, Calais is around a 2-hour drive to the north of Champagne-Ardenne. For most places in the region, the nearest airports are in Paris, and there is a TGV station in Bezannes near Reims.

The region is appealing because it is very “vieille France”, with butcher’s and baker’s vans going from one village to another. It has picturesque old style French villages with many stone houses and areas of historical interest. Champagne-Ardenne’s appeal lies in its beautiful countryside that boasts a great many trout rivers, hunting territory and bridleways.

Most of the houses in the region are built of stone with huge fireplaces. They often have original stone sinks, exposed beams and stone walls. A typical property in eastern France is a farmhouse comprising a kitchen, living room, dining room and bedroom attached to the barn and stable. Champagne-Ardenne has an exciting range of properties for sale at fantastic prices.

Romain Breton of Azhome Partners Estate Agency, based in the region, provides an explanation for the great value of the region’s properties: “Since local French property buyers are less interested in older buildings such as character farmhouses, village houses and manor houses, the prices have decreased. We have more old buildings with character than buyers to purchase them, so at the moment you can easily get a nice property with land for less than €150 000”.
