Les Forges industrial heritage museum
Assured of a prosperous future by the presence of Le Blavet, numerous Breton canning factories and a significant local workforce, the brothers Trottier founded an iron foundry in 1860 at a place known as Kerglaw. Sold to the French polish manufacturing company in 1882, the foundry adapted to new techniques and by 1936 employed 3000 workers. The post-war era, characterised by increasing competition in Europe, saw the factory working at only 50% capacity by 1960. It finally closed for good in 1966. The industrial heritage museum occupies the former metal testing laboratory. It retraces the story of the workforce community including the history of the factory founding, the workers’ movement, wood and metal working technology, social life, rural heritage, etc.
