It was interesting to read Edward Priestley’s article about fishing in the Limousine. It is always good to get another perspective and information on different waters. He is certainly right in saying that there are so many un-fished waters in the region. So much so, that it would be possible to fish a different one every day...
Together with two good friends, Paul and Jess, I decided to go and fish La Mordorée, an old quarry now totally transformed into a magnificent stillwater trout fishery in the heart of the Charente, just 30 mins drive from us....
La Gartempe is large and deep with very strong currents. It is full of many different species of fish and trout can still be found. La Gartempe is constantly looked after and cleaned which makes it easily accessible. Towards Châteauponsac and Rancon, the river is known “the salmon river”, not to be confused with trout.
Fishing in this part of France abounds! With so many rivers and lakes there is little surprise that just about any form can be catered for. If you are a purist with the split cane Hardys’ and the self-tied, dry-fly, and checking out the category one trout streams, this is the place for you.
