Kitchen facilities
The large fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to enjoy your holiday with a good selection of all kitchen utensils, crockery,glasses, pots and pans. There is a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, gas cooker with extractor, microwave and coffee machine. We also supply an iron and ironing board and there is plenty of storage and work surface space. The kitchen is open plan and leads to a spacious dining area for six people.
External facilities
Outside, the large patio area allows you to relax and enjoy your stay in this beautiful and tranquil setting. The large table and chairs with parasol make outside dining easy, whether your enjoying a glass of the local pineau or firing up the gas BBQ (supplied). Take a dip in our plunge pool if you need to cool off then lie back on a lounger and soak up the peaceful atmosphere, lovely views, sounds of the birds on the riverbank, or stroll down to the river for a lazy afternoons fishing.
Special features
La Bergerie is safe and suitable for children, the main garden is enclosed and there is a gate between the garden and the river.

Local activities
There are lots of things to do and see locally, as well as many exciting day trips to enjoy in the Charente area.
If you like cycling, tennis, fishing, table tennis, walking or kayaking then you don’t need to go much further than the village itself. Kayaking starts just a few kilometres away but you can disembark in the village park. Verteuil has lots of amenities so you can forget the car and walk to the local restaurant, bars or café bistro. There are also several village shops- a bakers, butchers, general store, post office, pharmacy and tabac all within a few minutes walk.
Angouleme, Poitiers and Cognac all have many interesting things to see and do including great shopping, museums, galleries and historical architecture. Further away you have the port of La Rochelle with its beautiful city centre and delicious sea food restaurants along the marina. Futuroscope, Valley of the Monkeys (primate park), and Snakes Island are just some of the many family day trips.

Location
Conveniently situated just a few kilometres from the N10, there is easy access to the towns of Ruffec, Angouleme, Poitiers and Cognac. Ryanair, Easyjet, Aer Lingus and Flybe all fly to our four nearest airports, namely:Angouleme/Cognac (25 mns) Poitiers (45 mins), Limoges (1h 15 mins), La Rochelle & Bordeaux (2 hours). The ferry ports can be reached in 4-6 hours and rail links to Ruffec, Angouleme and Poitiers are 6-8 hours from the UK.
Living rooms
This luxurious 3-bedroomed self-catering gite can sleep upto 6 people and is perfect for both couples and families alike.
Downstairs the large lounge area has two comfy sofas, exposed stone walls, tiled floors and an oak beamed ceiling. The large French doors look out onto the garden and field beyond which borders the River Charente – perfect for fishing or kayaking in the summer. If its winter, relax by the wood burning stove and enjoy the wonderful views of the fairytale chateau.
For your indoor entertainment there is a TV (French and English Sky), DVD-CD player, radio and a good selection of books, games and information on local tourist attractions.
Bedrooms
Upstairs the master bedroom is very tastefully finished and the neutral tones compliment the exposed stone walls and oak beams. For extra comfort there is a king size bed and an ensuite shower room. No problem with storage as this room has triple storage space and a dressing table with additional drawers. French doors, which flood the room with light, open onto a Juliet balcony and stunning views of the garden,terrace and countryside beyond. This room is spacious enough for a cot (which we can supply)
There are two other bedrooms; one double room which overlooks the gardens and one twin-bedded which is perfect for children. These two rooms share a separate shower room with washbasin and toilet. Both have been tastefully decorated and are bright and spacious with plenty of storage.
