FE-Limousin meets Pieter, from Van den Berg Immo1)Which areas of the Correze are proving popular at the moment? All areas of the Correze are popular at the moment, however south of Limoges seems to be causing a lot of interest just now, it appears that the ¨secret¨ of the Limousin may have been discovered, most are looking for a region of unspoilt natural beauty and peaceful surroundings in rural France, this area can supply that in abundance. 2)Much has been made of what the new airport at Brive will mean for the property market in Correze, what do you think will happen to the local market? If the stories I hear are true (and I have no reason to dispute them) then the low cost/economy airlines are going to be offering affordable flights for friends, families, and of course the property buyers themselves, this along with the numerous ferries and excellent road systems makes this area even more attractive to everyone.
3)You, yourself are Dutch and I believe it's fair to say that is a reasonably sized Dutch population in Correze, what nationalities are currently buying property in the department? There have been changes recently in buying patterns, English people are still arriving to view and buy properties, not in the same numbers as 2 years ago, this also applies to the Dutch buyers also, however in recent weeks the number of English clients showing interest has increased and I project an excellent year for our Agency with all nationalities. Thankfully we have English, Dutch, Spanish and French people working here and therefore the language barrier does not exist, clients can feel happy and confident that whatever their language, we will be able to help and provide an excellent service. 4)What is the entry level budget for buying a property in Correze? That really depends upon the people and their reasons for buying, we have barns for renovation from as little as €40,000, 2/3 bedroom cottages with beautiful gardens from around €200,000 all the way up to luxurious chateau properties for 1.3 Million Euros. We also offer Businesses for sale, Lakes, woodland and building plots. The majority of our clients however have a budget of around 250,000 Euros, for which we have quite a number of properties available at all times. 5)What type of people are buying property? Retired people are the mainstay of buyers from outside of France, however there are quite a number of younger couple with children also appearing, Internet employee’s can work quite happily from home and there are a lot of trades people with families who want to escape the “rat race” of the big cities to enjoy working and bringing up their children in a less stressful and olde worlde countryside environment 6)Are they buying holiday homes or permanent? Holiday home owners still arrive, it’s an excellent way to invest hard earned money, plus you can earn extra income and enjoy the summer months in the sunshine with your friends and families from a holiday home. Permanent home owners too are still arriving daily; in fact 80% of our clients are looking for somewhere to live all year round. I believe that this is due to the excellent facilities that the area has to offer i.e. schools, doctors, hospitals, travel and other local amenities, not to mention the friendly welcome that the local people offer, the benefits of life in the Limousin are extremely attractive to so many. 7) How long have Van Den Berg been selling property in the area? So far we have enjoyed 8 years of selling houses here, our reputation has grown and we are certain that our success will continue for years to come, a lot of people prefer to deal with a local family firm where the owners actually live in the region as opposed to the larger franchise operations. 8)Explain the attraction of the Correze for you? What has it to offer the typical foreign buyer? What hasn’t it to offer? The main attractions for foreign buyers tend to be, the warm sunny climate, green rolling hills and - have I mentioned the peaceful way of life? Living in a safer community, life is at a slower pace with fresh unpolluted air, French culture also has a great pull, freshly grown seasonal produce is always available at the local markets and shops, and that’s without mentioning the crusty bread and patisseries! Although the French property marketplace for has changed over the past few years, this is one area of France where prices are still very interesting and you can be sure of getting much more for your money.
