Unique “Suite d’Hôte” in the Haut Quercy

Rancho Escargot - near Carennac in the Lot (sleeps 2)

Unique Bed and Breakfast in the Haut Quercy
Rancho Escargot welcomes you to the Haut-Quercy, a unique Suite d’Hôte (B&B), just above Carennac, in the small hamlet of Magnagues.

Unique Bed and Breakfast in the Haut Quercy

The Dordogne River meanders through magnificent countryside in the valley below Magnagues. Mankind has inhabited this region known as the Haut-Quercy for over 150,000 years. Both Cro-Magnon & Neanderthal man were discovered here. Some of the finest examples of prehistoric cave paintings can be viewed at both Lascaux & Peche-Merle. Julius Caesar’s armies defeated the Gaul’s only 15 minutes away, at Uxellodunum. The many medieval villages of the region will transport you back to the time of the Knights Templar and the Crusades.

There is an abundance of “soft” adventure and recreational activities. Explore and photograph the magnificent villages of Rocamadour, Carennac, Loubressac, Autoire, Collonge-la-Rouge and Martel, while being transported back in-time through the Middle Ages. All are classified as “most beautiful villages” in France and within a 30 minute, or less, drive radius of Rancho Escargot. The Dordogne River provides great fishing and kayaking at our doorstep; it gently passes though wonderful natural reserves and pristine medieval villages. Walking is also a favorite pastime, with hundreds of kilometers of outstanding, well marked, G.R. trails. A lovely 9 hole executive golf course that wraps around the Renaissance Château de Montal (where the French resistance hid the Mona Lisa and other treasures of the Louvre throughout WW2) is only 10 minutes away.
