Lyon guide

Lyon is the capital of the Rhône department as well as the third largest city in France. It is situated on the confluence of two of France’s greatest rivers, the Rhône and the Saône.

There are two significant hills which shape and bring character to the city’s landscape. Fourvière to the west is home to a number of convents, and Notre Dame de Fourvière Bascillia to the east, which has an ancient Archbishop’s palace and TV tower that replicates the top section of the Eiffel Tower.

Lyon is renowned as the gastronomic capital of France and has a large variety of restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes, as well as some very exclusive and exquisite restaurants. The city also has some fascinating tourist attractions including some great museums such as Musée de Beaux Arts and Musée d’art Contemporain. View our Lyon holiday rentals.

The property in Lyon is expensive because it is a stylish city in which to work and live. There are not a great number of home owners from overseas in Lyon and tourism is not as evident as in other French cities. Property prices vary from zone to zone, but the 6th arrondissement is the most expensive area.
