Nestled in the foothills of the "Montagne Noire" and 40km north of Carcassonne, Mazamet is a bustling market town set amongst stunning scenery in the department of the Tarn, in the Midi-Pyrenees region.Once the centre of the world's wool and tanning industry, Mazamet has re-invented itself whilst retaining the 1850s charm and architecture of this laid-back corner of France. There are three weekly markets in the town centre, special "Fois Gras" markets are held during the Winter months, as well as one of Europe's largest markets in Revel just 40km away.
With a series of year-round events from the famous "Fanfare Sans Frontiers" - a unique musical gathering from around the globe - and the "Rallye Montagne Noire" car rally.

We managed to escape the brunt of the current credit crunch with help from the show Place in the Sun: Home or Away (Northern Ireland v. France) on Channel 4.We are Stephen Kerlin, an electrician from Derry, Northern Ireland and Christina See, a translator from High Wycombe, England and we now run Chambres d’hotes (B&B) in Mazamet in the Southern Tarn.

La Villa de Mazamet Mark Barber & Peter Friend have bought a run down former mill owner's residence in the centre of Mazamet in south Tarn. From Easter 2009, after a three-year renovation, La Villa de Mazamet will hopefully open its doors as a first class Chambres d'Hôtes, Tables d'Hôtes - with five guest bedrooms, two luxury apartments and restaurant. Having been approached by the TV Channel 4 last August to come and research Mazamet for a future programme, they were so impressed with the natural beauty and property prices that filming began very soon afterwards. The programs are due to be out in April 2008.
