The lovely Pays d’Auge region, to the south of the historic town of Lisieux, enjoys a very gentle pace of life and the visitor can enjoy leisurely walks and cycles in lanes virtually free of traffic. Orchards abound and wild flowers in abundance, the fields of the Pays d'Auge are filled with herds of the distinctive spotted Normandy cow. Lisieux is a centre for pilgrims from all over the world, who come to visit the sites associated with Saint Therese. There are many beautiful chateaux and gardens to visit in the area, including Crevecouer, Vendeuvre and St Germain de Livet, popular with old and young alike.
