North Charente guideThe North area of Charente has deep forests and peaks reaching to over 1000ft and the River Charente runs through enhancing such wild and scenic countryside. North Charente can be easily reached from both Poitiers and Limoges airports.In the north of the department you will find the small town of Ruffec, situated on the banks of the River Charente. The town has great historical heritage with the main focal point being the Church of Saint Andre dating from the 16th century. From Ruffec the bigger towns of Poitiers and Angoulême can be easily accessed. The other most significant town in North Charente is Confolens, situated between River Vienne and River Goire it is an ancient town with pre-historic sites.
