Property description
This château, originally dating from the Middle Ages, comes with a dry moat, 4 working gîtes, a swimming pool, outbuildings, impressive views and its own chapel. Currently run as a holiday business, the estate could continue to be run as holiday accommodation or be converted to an impressive residence, hotel, school or conference centre.
History
Originally dating from the Middle Ages, the castle was rebuilt in its present form sometime in 1649 by a family called Les Nicolas de Lamballerie, a family distinguished through history for feats of arms and which bore the title of 'Marquis' from the time of Pierre-Nicholas, Controller of the Pages of the Bedchamber at the Court of Louis XV.
Château
The château consists of a three-wing building with a central courtyard. Currently divided into three separate apartments, with a little work it could be converted back to one single residence. There are numerous rooms on each of the two floors and a huge area of attic space which could be converted to provide yet more accommodation. The main suites of rooms in the central wing have spectacular views over the valley below.
Apartment 1
This apartment includes a large kitchen/dining room, in the past used as the guard room, an elaborately paneled sitting room leading to a corridor, shower room and turret stairway to the bedrooms. There are 5 bedrooms and 2 separate shower rooms each with their own w.c. and wash basin.
Apartment 2
This apartment has a large open plan kitchen/dining room and lounge area with a sculptured archway and ornate fireplace. From this leads a stone stairway spiraling to a shower room with w.c. and wash basin adjacent to a bedroom. A corridor leads to a double bedroom with a renaissance styled alcove and carved wooden fireplace.
Apartment 3
Off the main hallway entrance is a spacious kitchen/dinning room, utility room, tiled cloakroom with w.c. and wash basin and an elegant lounge with a large fireplace. A wide wooden staircase leads from the hall to the first floor landing. Off this landing are 3 bedrooms. There is a bathroom with wash basin and w.c. adjacent to the first bedroom and a further shower room with w.c. and hand wash basin.
Gîtes
There are currently 4 gîtes in the grounds of the chateau, one takes 6 people, 2 take 4 people and one takes 2 people.
Grounds
A private drive leads through fields and woodland to the main gatehouse, through which lie the main estate buildings. Behind the chateau and between the gîtes is a generous swimming pool with additional, as yet unconverted, outbuildings that could be utilised to provide further gîte accommodation or perhaps a restaurant.
In total, the estate includes about 14 hectares (35 acres), currently comprising of lawns, park, woodland and fields.
