Ploubazlanec and the surrounding area
Ploubazlanec is the principle town in a cluster of small fishing villages just outside the larger and more well-known town of Paimpol. Although small it is certainly not lacking in activities, with several intimate beaches, a variety of coastal walks, sailing or even just relaxing. Ploubazlanec represents a quintessential Brittany: Green, fragrant and beautiful.
The region offers a variety of fishing towns and ports, the nearest of which is Paimpol, characterised by its tangle of cobbled alleyways and fine grey-granite houses. Nearby sites also include the Abbaye de Beauport, and of course the Island of Brehat which can only be accessed by boat. On its north side are windswept meadows sloping down to chaotic rock formations. On the south, you are in the midst of palm trees and other Mediterranean flora owing to its incredibly mild climate. All around is a multitude of little islets - some accessible at low tide. All in all, it is one of the most beautiful places in Brittany, renowned as a sanctuary not only for rare species of wild flowers, but also for birds of all kinds.
