The Orne is the least touristy of all the departments and is best known for its meadows, orchards, half-timbered houses, and traditional farmhouses.

The popular destinations of Mont St. Michel, St.Malo, the Normandy beaches and the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne are all within easy reach. This area of Normandy is easily accessible from the UK by ferry, aeroplane, train and the Channel Tunnel.

The area offers lots of facilities for leisure and sporting activities and sports including cinemas (showing English films from time to time) swimming, golf, horse riding, sailing and canoeing.

Visit the stunning Eglise Notre Dame or the « Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle » which has many samples of the famous Alencon lace plus a large collection of paintings from the 15th century to the beginning of the 20th. The attractive chateau at Carrouges is also well worth a visit.
