Normandy is easily reached by sea and air. The road and rail connections, provide easy access from the UK. Approx four to five hours from the Tunnel crossing, and some of the 'no frills' ferries and also the ports of Caen, Cherbourg, Dieppe and Le Havre and of course, St Malo (Brittany) are all within very easy striking reach of the region together with the airport at Dinard where flights arrive from East Midlands, Stansted and Luton. And not forgetting Paris is only 2 and quarter hours by train.
The Orne is the least touristy of all the departments and is best known for its meadows, orchards, half-timbered houses, and traditional farmhouses.
The popular destinations of Mont St. Michel, St.Malo, the Normandy beaches and the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne are all within easy reach. This area of Normandy is easily accessible from the UK by ferry, aeroplane, train and the Channel Tunnel.
The area offers lots of facilities for leisure and sporting activities and sports including cinemas (showing English films from time to time) swimming, golf, horse riding, sailing and canoeing.
A little bit about Domfront
Having a privileged natural site, Domfront town offers an exceptional panorama on a wide landscape bocage horizon. The town origin goes back from the 11th century. It is around 1010 that the first fortification was erected, on a sandstone promontory which overlooks the gorges of the Varenne. Surrounded with deep moats, this formidable fortress was surrounded by an enclosure wall. With an undeniable strategic position, Domfront castle was, for several centuries, one of the strongest keeps in France.
