![]() Public Holidays in France
THINGS TO KNOW Good Friday is not a public holiday in France. Pentecost Holiday was officially scrapped from 2005. However, many companies and individuals still do close for the day or take the day off anyway. Bank holidays are usually taken on the day on which they fall. However, if a bank holiday is on a Sunday, the Monday afterwards will often be considered a work-free day, instead so it's worth checking if you're making a special trip. If a bank holiday is on a Thursday, there is frequently a 'bridge' - where the day in between is taken as a day off, creating a four day holiday. It is also difficult to adjust to the 2 hour lunch break when you first arrive in France, so remember to plan for most shops being closed at this time, although the larger supermarkets do usually remain open. In larger towns not all shops close either. Living in France Home Page Looking for a property in France?
