Le Marais guide
Le Marais is a stylish district in Paris and traditionally has been known as a bourgeois area; the area spreads across the right bank of the Seine. Le Marais means “the marsh” and is the oldest and perhaps most beautiful district in Paris. It has good transport links to the city centre with Métro links.
Rue Charlot is a particularly chic street with many shopping boutiques, fine restaurants, art galleries and historic places. On this street too is Le Pamphlet, the worldwide famous gastronomic restaurant and Hôtel du Petit Moulin designed by Christian Lacroix. One can listen to classical music in the Armenian Cathedral or see Marie Antoinette’s style at Le Boudoir et Sa Philosophie.
The district is also home to the Musée Picasso and the Carnavalet Museum which is devoted to the history of Paris; the Place des Voges is one of the most stunning and oldest squares in Paris. There are many charming apartments and townhouses and though the area is much sought after, its property is more reasonably priced than in central Paris and has great letting potential.
With so many restaurants to choose from the residents and visitors to Le Marais are spoilt for choice. Bel Canto makes for a particularly special evening as one can listen to Opera while enjoying their meal, some of the music played is Mozart and Puccini; the cuisine is Southern French and Italian and one such dish is Duck with Foie Gras. Ma Bourgogne is another delightful restaurant, serving cuisine from Burgundy and central France; it also has a lovely view of the square.
