Bergerac guide

Bergerac is situated in the south west of Dordogne and is the capital of the Purple Perigold area – known as purple for its 125sq km of vineyards. Bergerac has its own airport so is very easily accessible, Bordeaux airport is also in close proximity.

The region’s abundance of grapes is put to good use in Bergerac, where they are used to create fine wine. Bergerac is the Dordogne’s main wine producing town and is famous for its wine. The vineyards encircling Bergerac produce a vast array of town and regional wines. Bergerac is also known for its tobacco production and its history is proudly portrayed in the town’s Tobacco Museum.

The town is full of life in the summer and buzzes with visitors. Many of which choose to eat in the cafes and restaurants. In the streets of old Bergerac one can enjoy fine Périgold cuisine. From Bergerac, Bordeaux and Perigueux are easily visited as is the Atlantic coast; Bergerac is a good base for visitors to Dordogne.

Bergerac is a very sought after scenic location and therefore an expensive place in which to buy property. There has been a significant increase of overseas buyers in and around the area in recent years; however, price increases have slowed down as more buyers are looking to other areas of France in which to purchase property. The popularity of the area means that there is little chance of finding a property in need of renovation.
