Hailstorm Causes Major DamageHailstones were the size of golf balls in AlbiOn Monday 17th September at 1700, a hailstorm caused major damage in Albi and the surrounding area. The hailstones were the size of golf balls. The wind was extremely strong and trees fell on roads, including the A68 motorway between Albi and Toulouse, and caused major disruption. There was also major damage between Cantepau to Fonlabour, where the “Lycee” and buildings in the business park, Albipôle, were seriously damaged. The shopping centre of Le Sequestre was also struck and shop windows were damaged. More than 3000 cars were dented and/or had their windscreens smashed. In Florentin, some of the parcels of vines of Cave de Labastide de Levis were entirely destroyed by the hail. There was also damage elsewhere, a mini tornado blew off the roof of the main building of the leisure park of Cap Decouverte and the vineyard of Marcillac, in the Aveyron, was also damaged by hail and a mini tornado.
