Coronavirus Q&A: Can I still go to my French holiday home?

In these uncertain times it can be difficult to separate the facts from the fake news. We’re on hand to answer your questions about how coronavirus affects France, and your plans.

I own a holiday home in France and pay into the French tax system. Can I still make use of my French holiday property during the Covid-19 pandemic?

It’s fair to say that the Covid-19 pandemic is causing a significant amount of upheaval. We’re all being called upon to make changes to our ordinary lives to minimise the spread of this new disease, leaving people concerned and disappointed.

At the moment France is on lockdown, and the EU is banding together to reduce international travel. France is not allowing entry to the country unless the trip is essential. You will have to provide a written declaration upon entry to state the reason for travel and may be turned away if it’s deemed insufficient. You can download a form here or write and sign your own letter if you don’t have access to a printer.

We’d really recommend that you follow the government’s advice and try not to travel unless it’s absolutely necessary. The advice seems to change on a daily basis, and nobody wants to be stranded far from home. With UK schools closing and many countries clamping down on people’s movements it’s crucial to pay attention to the news and keep yourself and your family safe.

I’d recommend keeping an eye on this page here, which will show the latest travel information.

We appreciate that this is a strange and frustrating time, but we’re sure you’ll be able to head back to your property for some much-needed downtime once the dust settles.
