Founded in 1994, the International School of Monaco is located in beautifully renovated premises on the port of Monaco, and provides a broad and balanced education for children in Monaco and the surrounding areas. A new extension for the Early Years, including a cafeteria serving the whole school, and a spacious open-air playground, was opened in 2015. A state-of-the-art Science Centre, excellent libraries/learning hubs and IT provision make studying at ISM a real pleasure.  With over fifty nationalities in our community, ISM welcomes families who are seeking a truly international education for their children and who share our Mission and philosophy.

Our Mission is clear:

We will work with you and your child to do everything we can to ensure that he/she becomes an academically successful, internationally minded, caring person and a motivated learner able to communicate effectively using two or more languages and well prepared for the challenges of an ever-changing world.

With this objective, ISM offers a challenging academic programme and has high expectations of its pupils. In the Early Years and Primary Schools, the programme, based on the best of international curricula, is fully bilingual English/French with equal emphasis on both languages.

As students move up into the Middle and Secondary Schools, English is the main language of instruction. French is obligatory, and a third language is normally taken by all students. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum complemented by a wide array of after school activities.

In the Secondary School we offer two distinct programmes.

In Classes 10 and 11, students are prepared for the Cambridge IGCSE examinations taken  at the end of Year 11,  before progressing onto the two year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, graduating at the end of Class 13.

The IB Diploma, founded fifty years ago to provide geographic and cultural mobility, provides a balanced education, promotes international understanding, and develops critical thinking skills which are appreciated by universities all over the world.

Since our first cohort obtained their IB Diplomas  in 2003, over 350 ISM graduates have been admitted to many prestigious universities and colleges of further education in the UK, USA and Canada, Europe and beyond; click here to see where ISM graduates are admitted.

Life at ISM is about much more than academics; we are proud to offer a rich array of extra-curricular activities, sports, music and arts. Field trips include expeditions to Iceland and Vietnam, study visits to Italy, Spain and France, and a science trip to the United Kingdom.  The school is proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, Model United Nations Clubs with trips to MUN sessions in Paris and Geneva, an Investment Club and Enterprise Challenge Club.

Our students believe strongly in ‘giving back’ and volunteer in many ways, including beach clean-ups, helping at homes for young mothers or the elderly, fund raising initiatives for deprived children?  and collections of food and clothing for refugees.

At ISM your child’s happiness and well-being is at the forefront of everything we do. A full time Head of Staff and Student Wellbeing is there to oversee the pastoral and emotional development of everyone in our school community.

All parents are automatically members of our Parent-Teacher Association which welcomes new families and arranges many social events throughout the year.
