    Hi,

I’ve just had fitted a dual fuel range cooker with gas hob and I want to connect the hob to a butane bottle in a nearby cupboard. I’ve just bought a 2m flexible butane hose with the screw on connectors but have found it to be about 1m short. Is there some sort of extension kit available or are there regs that prevent this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Fred

Dunno about the regs on flexibles but why not buy a gas valve with backplate to fit in cupboard next to range. These valves have a male-male thread the same as the flexible unions. Use your 2m hose from bottle to valve & buy another lifetime use hose to connect hob to valve.

The valve can be used to easily isolate the hob after use which I know is a requirement for a ‘hard piped’ installation which I have.

Hi Vic and thanks for your advice.

That is something I considered but I’ve just read that regs won’t allow 2 flexibles to be joined together. Not sure if having a valve as the connection gets around it.

Can’t see it being a problem as how else could you fit that isolating valve ?

You have a point there Vic.

I’ll speak with the builder who’s fitting the kitchen tomorrow.

I remember that the maximum length of flexible allowed for a diy installation is 2 metres, anything else must be pro installed and certified etc.

Gas rules are gas rules – why do you have a problem with that?

The commercialisation of tuyau caoutchouc ou inox flexible is not permitted.

Sorry of course rubber & flexible stainless steel hoses of extraordinary dimensions are manufactured.
The moot point is the 2 m distance.
Nothing to prevent you using a 5 m hose with your weed killer flame thrower.
