    My experience of the English line:

    • Phone at 8.30 a.m. exactly (Telephone no. I used in Limousin: 05 62 16 49 08 – don’t know if this applies elsewhere);
    • Have your client number ready, if you have one;
    • Be very very patient;
    • If possible ask for Sandrine or Christine – in that order. Both are lovely;
    • Be very very patient;
    • Throw in a couple of French phrases to show willing. In particular, if you’re quoting client numbers or telephone numbers, or spelling anything – do it in French, even if you can only do it very very slowly.
    • Be very very patient;
    • If they’re nice – and the two ladies mentioned above, were – thank profusely.

    I have spoken with the people on the assistants on the English speaking helpline 6 times in the past 2 weeks and never once had to speak French. I just speak normally to them and have always found them to be fluent in English. Very helpful people.

    I kept trying and trying the English line. Eventually I plucked up the courage to call the French line, not so scary, after all if you can say your address, customer number and meter reading in french you are 95% of the way there!

    You only have to be brave for 10 seconds…

    Calling them from the UK seems to be almost impossible and email addresses just do not exist.

    Mon espace keeps giving me a freephone number to call which, naturally, doesn’t work if you’re calling from UK.

    Eventually resorted to trying the English speaking lines but have spent in excess of 2 hours over 2 days listening to the same music and being assured that a bleu agent (are they really smurfs?) will be with me shortly.

    An an alternative to using the phone service, either French or English, you can check if EDF have a ’boutique’ near you – using http://www.boutiques.edf.com I visited one yesterday just as they re-oped at 1400 – there was one man waiting and I jokingly said “30 seconds to go” and precisely at 1400 the doors were opened. I saw an assistant, a charming helpful young lady, straight away and the problem was sorted out in 20 minutes – quite complicated, trying to identify which meter was actually mind, arranging re-connexion and signing a new contract. Face to face is so much easier, where it is available. As I left there was a queue of about 10 people (for around 8 or 10 assistants) so it was handy to arrive on the dot of 1400, quite my accident as I had some trouble finding the place. (Before this I had got absolutely nowhere with 7 useless phone calls to the central office in Blois).

    All well and good if you can get to one of the shops and someone there speaks English or can be bothered to sort a problem rather than just sell you something. I suggest an email to simpleenergywithedf@edf.fr which seems to be very useful for most problems and info. You can email them in English to this address and get a comprehensive answer in English within a day or two at the most. This works from the UK as well as France.

    This is a very old thread but the email address still works.
    I don’t understand your question.
