I am waiting for the artisan to arrive today to inspect the grenier prior to installation.  I had a phone interview re dimensions etc.  Had to fill in the Impots form, supply our tax reference numbers and sign the devis, which I did online.  It is quite genuine.

They will email the relevant forms through.  Apart from the initial phone interview, I did it all online.

Free EDF advice probably and some guidance how to fund the renovation project. Your money or a special loan to get the work done by one of the “Partenaires Solutions Habitat d’EDF”.

Actually the insulation offer is 1 euro if you fulfil their criteria.  House over 2 years old and income below a certain level.

Sorry, I was a bit too suspicious. It seemed too good to be true. But the French reality is sometimes full of surprises.

I’m not having any luck with my translater at the moment.  Is this a loan or a full grant?  Or is it just a reduction of tax which is of no use to someone that is below the tax threshold?  I assume like all the rest you are required to engage a professional to do all the work and source the materials.

The EDF information speaks about a special income tax arrangement and loans, to be paid back to Domofinance, one of EDF’s (many) partners.

A separate or perhaps combined track is the low-income offer. Subventions for from a technical point of view low-cost insulation of your attic:  primes des ménages à précarité énergétique, see point 2 for the differences between regions.

Thankyou RA.  It appears to be the same as previous ones.

It is a full grant.  All you pay is 1 euro.  There is a sliding scale I think for people who have above the qualifying income level.

Once you have done the online stuff a local installer will phone to make an appointment for inspection.  Was very impressed with the guy who came yesterday, very thorough, discussed a couple of things that needed doing before the installation.  They expect to install within the next 2/3 weeks.

I think you will find you need to be a French resident and pay income tax in France to qualify, but I would not fret about it, from what I have read on EDF’s website the free bit is the inspection and then a loan is taken out to pay for the insulation, how this is repaid is not clear, but steering clear is an sensible option IMO.

It should be also your maison principale, not a holiday homeOne of the other requirements: the house should be easily accessible by trucks: ” Le chantier doit être accessible à de gros camions pour injecter rapidement la laine de verre.” As mentioned in this missing link in my earlier remarks where a click of my mouse produced the headlines in a Dutch newspaper: The long-serving Dutch prime minister Ruud Lubbers, who led the Netherlands from 1982 to 1994, has died at the age of 78.

In the now correct link about this 1 euro insulation offer detailed information about the gliding scale as mentioned already by Labezarderie.

For a mere 1€ for complete roof insulation I am most interested. Who wouldn’t be? I’ve followed the above link and trawled through a lot of the info and at the moment it seems the offer is only currently available to people living in certain areas: “Etant donné que nous réalisons nous même les travaux, notre programme est actuellement disponible dans 16 départements du 1/4 nord de la France” and of course our department (85 Vendée) isn’t among the 16.

Now my French ain’t brilliant, so it’s highly like I’ve misunderstood. I would really appreciate if someone would tell me if I’m correct and if so, is it planned to roll this offer out to other departments in the future?

    Bon dimanche,

    Sledge.
