Talk about flogging a dead horse. With my thumb key I can reinstall any 32 bit Windows 10 machine.

To get the best out of any system 64 bit is the way to go,and has been for some years, the only reason to stick with 32 bit is if you have older hardware (or software) that won’t run in 64 bit mode.

With 32 bit you are limited to a little over 3gb of ram,Win 10 needs a minimum of 1gb just for the operating system in 32 bit or 2gb in 64 bit + whatever else is running.

4gb of ram is pretty much the standard minimum these days and 8gb much better now the cost has come down, the more ram the better.

It would be ,in the context of the thread, better to focus your attention to matters Windows 10 rather than embarking on an explanation of the RAM accessing capabilities of 32 and 64 bit systems. Everybody know these simple facts.
It would appear that your sketchy knowledge of Windows 10 does not include the requirement to choose either 32 bit or 64 bit when downloading a bootable media creation thumb drive.
In respect of my own 32 bit thumb drive: it relates to the fact that BOTH of my PCs are 32 bit and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES extols the virtues of 32 bit systems.
As an anecdotal diversion I note that my Smart phone is more powerful than my two PCs put together. My next Smartphone will be 64 bit, 8 core and DDR4.

If I wanted tiles I would have gone to Wickes or B&Q. :-)

 That made me laugh. But after playing around with Win 8.1 a bit, I now only ever see tiles if I punch the wrong key.

Have followed this thread with much interest because my fairly new PC is 64bit and so could handle Win 10. But I still think it may be best to wait awhile to let everything settle down.

    Loopski,

a lot of people do not understand the difference between 32 & 64 bit so I think the points are perfectly valid.

Excuse my sketchy knowledge and I bow to he who has had Win 10 installed for only a matter of weeks himself.but can you really “reinstall Win 10 on any computer from your thumb drive”?

As I understand it you can reinstall as many times as you like on the computer that was upgraded,I find it hard to believe that MS would let you install on any number of computers under the same licence.

MS also say that major hardware changes which cause the pc to lose Windows activation will require the purchase of a new licence,so the free upgrade does seem to come with some strings attached.

If this is the case and users take the free upgrade now,and then in a few months time suffer a major hardware failure such as a motherboard, then they will have no means of reverting back to the original operating system and also have to pay for a licence.

Loopy### Your premise is applicable from XP and ulterior, possibly W10 upgraders are more IT streetwise.

Loopy### Well for starters it wont do a 64 bit machine.

As I understand it you can reinstall as many times as you like on the computer that was upgraded,I find it hard to believe that MS would let you install on any number of computers under the same licence.
Loopy### The thumb key will not and cannot contain an excusive unique licence.

MS also say that major hardware changes which cause the pc to lose Windows activation will require the purchase of a new licence,so the free upgrade does seem to come with some strings attached.
Loopy### Always been the case for OEM installed systems, green box installs are rare theses days.

If this is the case and users take the free upgrade now,and then in a few months time suffer a major hardware failure such as a motherboard, then they will have no means of reverting back to the original operating system and also have to pay for a licence.
Loopy### One can only assumethat direct contact with Microsoft would be required.

A survey of Administrative events in the events observer will show how your system is settling down. I have had 1564 events in the period from the 30th of July until today the 6th of September. The last week under 10 & day so the system is getting more stable.
A complete defrag of the Dynamic Drive is a good measure, particularly in the early days of a System Upgrade and particularly after a large Security Update.

A useful Application called Snip has been released recently by Microsoft.
    Works well on Windows 10.

    Warning DELL users.

As you know that the windows 10 was sitting on the screen for some time before it was due for release, those that used DBAR no notice was given that <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>before on installs win10 you must reload the later version as conflict will result if you do not. the damaged caused is great.

The great vid that jennyk posted helps get one back to a certain stage but what it does not do is get all the software and drivers that are now missing once you have had to format your drive. Some of the software you cannot obtain with ease as Dell are quite possesive of thier software.

Not sure what you mean or what you did to get an obvious install conflict.
However this may have been mentioned previously.
The joined up words around the word CANCEL in capitals is relevant

I think to understand you would need to read the post altogether, but to summerize. Win10 was placed on the screen by who dell or Microsoft ? however Dell was aware that win 10 had been placed on the range of computers they sell. They know that DBAR is running on most computers. Ther failing was that they did not forwarn users that they must upload a new version of DBAR which in fact was not available at that time.

The out come was that the new update caused something to go wrong and corrupted the pwl file and made it impossible to sign in. The second thing that it did was to lock the drive and the third and most important was that it took away all admin rights,

Where does Delet come into this scenario ?

The situation is now that (will not list all versions)if you have win10 loaded via iso disc you cannot load DBAR you must go back and load factory sttings and start all ove. Please note new computers with win 10 from Dell do not have DBAR.

    Delet

Well it’s not a new word at all it’s a term for hiding an ISP, but I am sure that one is allowed to make the odd mistake now and then. I should have put Cancel. But whilst on the subject of mistakes maybe you could explain to me how one would do any backups/restore without access to admin rights and a locked drive. Forget your first link it means absolutly nothing, why because it is not a directive from dell and if you think that one should scour the internet in case there is some articule on the matter, well you go ahead I would wait for Dell to tell me.

But to go back please inform me how you would unlock a drive and how you would do anything without admin rights. Apart from a complete format destroying all data.
