    I registered my laptop a month or so ago. The hidden folder is only 140MB so obviously waiting for the full download.

    I finally got around to registering my wife’s laptop (exactly the same model as mine) this morning and it launched straight into the download. The progress indicator shows 56% completed as I type.

    Next decision is whether or not to implement the “upgrade”. I think I’ll wait a bit to see what the general consensus is.

    As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after. Viewing - various Digiboxes. A Foxsat HDR which moves with me between the UK and France. Main TV: UK Philips 42PFL9632; France 47PFL9632

    Well it’s now downloaded and 50% through installing. It’s a long job!

    Quick question re this new MS10 download, should I back up all files and photos somewhere, just in case? My Win 7 laptop is 3 years old this year, and doesn’t have a lot of overly important stuff on it, apart from a lot of pictures of my last dog, who died well before his time, and I would be heartbroken to lose them.
    Apparently, my system has been approved, but as far as I can see, I have not been given the option to start the download.

    twister, yes, make back up copies of anything you would not want to lose….even if you don’t change anything on your computer, you could lose your photos at any time in the event of hard drive problem, lightning strike, theft etc, etc, etc….;

    Well, that’s it installed. Similar home page to Win 7 but all sorts of fancy stuff from the start button. All files and progs unaffected by the installation. Will get to play at more length later but so far so good.

    Rescue me, Lord, from evildoers;
    protect me from the Windows,
    who devise evil plans in their hearts
    and stir up war every day.

    I have looked in my download history and I have a listing yesterday at 14,50 stating ‘passer à la version windows 10 famille’

    Then it says, vous devrez éventuellement redémarrer l’ordinateur pour que cette mise à jour soit appliquer.

    Then state of installation states’ échec
    And then error code 80240020

    Any ideas? Totally confused, I havent tried to download it yet myself, I keep looking at the notifier thing, in my bar, which has 4 prompts, 1, obtain windows 10, 2 verify verifier votre statut de mise à niveau, 3 acceder à Windows update, and the last one is the discover windows 10.

    Am I being overly impatient?

    Overly something. Anyone being so eager to suck up Microsoft’s latest fiasco is overly “something”.

    Thats as maybe Aardvark, but I would like to at least try the new version, and making up my mind as to whether it is worth it or not.

    Once again in my updates I am getting the same error message as yesterday :

    ‘passer à la version windows 10 famille’

    vous devrez éventuellement redémarrer l’ordinateur pour que cette mise à jour soit appliquer.

    Then state of installation states’ échec
    And then error code: 80240020

    I am not forcing the update, so I am not sure as to what is happening!

    Could anyone please be so kind and explain what this actually means!

    I have just finished doing a manual upgrade to Windows 10.
    Basically just lost patience waiting for the reserved download.
    Do the following;
    Double click on the white quartered icon in the task bar.
    A window will open, write down the message which appears.
    At top right click on the three bar icon , another window will appear with options.
    In the second group of options click on the first option and write down message:then do same for the second option.
    The three messages will give an indication of the status of your W10 reservation.
    Click on all the other options just for curiosity, there is unlikely to be any useful info.
    Post the three message content on this thread.
    Dont worry about it being in french as my PC is in french which makes it easier for me.
    On the basis of info then a strategy will develop; there is always the option of a manual update with a download directly to the target PC. It takes around three hours but longer if you have a lot of stuff to save and reinstall into Windows 10
    Better left till tomorrow, I think.
    Cheers.

    If you do choose the manual option, dont take any notice of the tutorials on the net.
    It is all wrong, well most of it. There is no need for DVD ISOs or bootable USB thumb keys or Product Licence Numbers, etc.
    P.S. nevertheless I have prepared a W10 bootable USB thumb key memory stick with the 5 GB Win 10 installation software programme for potential use on any 32 bit PC.

    I have an iMac with Win 7 running under Bootcamp. There was a problem because it would not let service pack 1 install, therefore no update to Win 10 offered. I have been running Win 10 beta under Virtual Box satisfactorily.

    I downloaded the Win 10 updater from Microsoft and after a thorough back up with Clickfree, I set it off. It down loaded, updated and installed very smoothly, although taking a fair time.

    Win 10 opened with my desktop looking much the same as before, and the installation seems to run faster and smoother than my old Win 7 – which has been saved should I wish to step back. All my data, programs (now apps!) were there safely.

    Verdict: Win 10 known from using Beta, install went smoother than I expected, especially as using Mac Bootcamp.
    So far so good.

    Says I need to uninstall: Samsung Recovery Solution 5
    : Samsung
    during the upgrade. Then says my upgrade is reserved. What happens if I uninstall Samsung Recovery Solution 5 and Samsung?
