For those who simply cannot bear to wait:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    <hr>

With reference to the URL above, for someone just wishing to replicate the W10 Reservation download routine, the only relevant thing is the choice between the 32 bit button and the 64 bit button.
The blue buttons at the bottom of the page.
The following located above the buttons is not relevant….

If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10, you can use the tools on this page to create your own installation media using either a USB flash drive or a DVD.

    Before you begin
•Make sure you have: •An internet connection (internet service provider fees may apply).
•Sufficient data storage available on a computer, USB or external drive for the download.
•A blank USB or DVD (and DVD burner) with at least 4 GB of space if you want to create media. We recommend using a blank USB or blank DVD, because any content on it will be deleted.

    •Read the System Requirements.
•If you will be installing the operating system for the first time, you will need your Windows product key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). For more information about product keys and when they are required, visit the FAQ page.

Use the media creation tool to download Windows. This tool provides the best download experience for customers running Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. To learn how to use the tool, go to the Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool page. Tool includes: •File formats optimized for download speed.
•Built in media creation options for USBs and DVDs.
•Optional conversion to ISO file format.

While I have no intention of exposing my daily workhorse Windows 7 machines to 10 any time soon I have downloaded it from the link I gave earlier and tried it on a spare 7 Ultimate 64bit laptop.

An upgrade took 1 hour 5, a roll back to 7 for the hell of it was successfully accomplished in about 30 minutes, and a clean install took about 50 minutes, including updating the graphics drivers.

No impact whatsoever on the other two HD partitions on the machine throughout any of the above and at first impression it strikes me as a little more than 7 in a new suit !

Interesting that there is an option to turn off updates, or at least postpone them, if you on a metered service.

Makes you wonder what the silly reservation nonsense was about ?

During you quick Windows 10 experience, did you look for Windows Update in the Control Panel?:smile::smile:

The basic principal (sic) of a septic tank is that the scum/crust layer seals the effluent from any air so that anaerobic digestion can take place.

Idem a review of the God Mode option shows no signs of Windows Update in Windows 10 Professional.

Quite pleased with my Median akoya 1210 notebook which is 7 years old. It started with XP, moved to 8 then 8.1 and now on 10. The upgrade to 10 was seamless with data transfer.
The display limitations that affected tiles in 8.1 now do not exist.
This had required hitching up a larger screen for the upgrade to 8.1, so as to kid the installation software.
The upgrade to 10 was done with the native display.

Quite possibly. The presence of irritating flipping/scrolling ads in the “light” version of Office was my prompt to move to OpenOffice.

However, the only machine I use that meets the spec for an upgrade to W10 is one that I rarely use for any games, so am still “thinking about it” …

Just got the notification of the download in my bar. As we are on fibre, it says 20 minutes for the download. Going for it as my ASUS portable is also a tablet and this seems a perfect OS for it.

It also seems that not to many people here on not using pomme machines which is good. Probably a money thing though. I/we use one for our video and picture editing but detest it & all they stand for.

There is a very annoying problem that a lot of Outlook users are having, which is still under the radar. Windows 10 breaks Outlook 2007,10 and 13 by changing permissions, which stops you sending mail. Bit drastic and was a difficult one to track down and get a fix(sort of) for.

Have removed all the Samsung guff from my laptop apart from stuff relating to my printer. Laptop a lot quicker which is a bonus. A techy friend in UK says loads of people have reported their computers being quicker since the update to 10. Still waiting for my update.

Does anyone here who’s updated use Microsoft Money? Apparently any version, any year doesn’t work. Bit of a stink about this on some forums.

It seems the problem is it needs IE6 which was removed late in the beta cycle because of the new web browsers! If you search you will find there is a registry fix which works – but it may well be overwritten by a later Win10 update. But there is also a problem with importing statements as qif, ofx, etc files requiring a specific patched DLL depending on the version of Money you are using.

Uninstall Win10 and wait six months or so for others to find the problems, identify solutions, and until things have settled down. Or you could dual-boot install an older version of Windows or run an older version in a virtual window.

I don’t run Money myself, I was just alerting others.

If anyone is suffering the problem they’ll surely thank you for the pointers.
