If you have an opinion on immigration you are racist?

If your opinion is purely negative then yes you probably are.

If you blame all the ills of the UK  on immigrants then yes you probably are.

If you regard yourself, as a Briton abroad, an ex pat but those coming to the UK as immigrants then yes you probably are.

And even more do not. You still havn’t backed up your statement. The facts are that most people in the UK who want to leave the EU want to do so because they have an issue with immigration.

 If immigration has become the main issue that Brexiters want to push, what will they think of a BBC1 interview today with an Indian restaurant owner? He will vote to leave the EU because he can’t enough staff and he thinks restricting immigration of EU nationals will allow easier entry for commonwealth members. Regarding UKIPpers, ‘be careful what you wish for’ comes to mind.

The op states those voting out are ” completely opposite to racists”. Being completely opposite to racism would mean having an attitude to foreigners that was not compatable with agreeing with the Leave campaign position on immigration. Those wanting to remain will consider other factors more important than immigration If you want the UK to leave the EU you may be racist, you may be anti establishment, you may be influenced by newspaper headlines, you may be economically illiterate amongst other factors. Unlike the op I am unable to say with any certainty although polls suggest that immigration fears, tabloid readership and a lower level of education are common factors. Hope that clears it up for you.

Ah, so wanting to vote leave equates to stupidity and ignorance.

Why did you not say so before?

Now I can vote remain secure in the knowledge that andy thinks I am clever. AND more important not racist,

I seem to be being credited with saying some things that I haven’t. My observations of a televised debate suggested to me that those committed to Leave were driven to be so by their aversion to immigration. And, alluding to a previous comment, that was not restricted to white anglo saxons.

I’m sure some have good reasons for voting no but where I would agree with Andy is that many, if not most, are xenophobic dunderheids. My words, not his.

FWIW I don’t see any prospect of this referendum producing a result that I won’t find favourable.

    UK votes remain … good.

UK votes leave but overwhelming remain vote in Scotland  …good.

England votes leave but cancelled out by remain vote in other 3 UK countries … good

Any other outcome … there is not a snowball in hell’s chance of an outcome outwith those previous three scenarios.

What makes you think I needed to? Stupidity and racism is for those who remain unconsciously incompetent to discover for themselves.

Why do I think there is some contradiction in that post ?

If 50% of the UK population are xenophobic dunderheids and the other 50% are inverted xenophobic dunderheids surely it would better to leave. You have so much in common.

I think this thread has run it’s course now as it’s starting to get unpleasant to read. So I’m locking it.

I’m sure there are many reasons that people may decide to vote to leave the EU (in the same way as people in Scotland voted to leave the UK) and it’s not helpful to insinuate that they are all Racist/Xenophobic.

    Kind regards
    Charlotte
