Good on her. It will take quite a few years before Ireland becomes a nation once again, sing along.

The last Indyref cost 16 million quid to hold ..If Scotland wants another so badly ….should it be that those keen on it….. be required to reach  into their pockets and cover the cost of it in total themselves ….. And hold it when the Indy  account has it all in the bank …Or do they expect another 16 million…… plus today no doubt …to be stumped up by all the UK tax payers ……and do it every three or four years if they feel the need to make a habit of it .?

Any guess what a Scotland to join The EU in a few years time wil cost the Scots on the day ? Expensive it will be .

Still a fraction of the cost of Brexit though. About 3 quid per person in Scotland, but then perhaps they could use the money to save the NHS instead, 16 million would last at least 3 hours.

    From The Spectator…

Had the SNP achieved its stated ambition of ‘independence day’ in the spring of 2016, what would it be doing now? We don’t have to imagine. This week, the Scottish government published figures for its national finances. They show that the Scottish government spends £127 for every £100 it raises in tax — a ratio unequalled anywhere else in the developed world. It can do this because so much extra money is sent up from England. For every £100 spent per English head, £120 is spent on a Scottish one.

It will take quite a few years before Ireland becomes a nation once again

TM has painted herself into a corner as far as Ireland (united or otherwise) is concerned. She has promised that the UK will not be divided in any way, but she has also promised to maintain the UK-Ireland Common Travel Area. The two promises are incompatible: either she builds a wall à la Trump between NI & the Republic, and then spends £350m a day trying to stop discontented nationalist pyrotechnicians from dismantling it; or she draws a line between NI and “the mainland”, thereby wrenching the Ulster Unionists off the Westminster teat to which they are so strongly attached.

If she has any sense (proof awaited  ) she will take her lead from the natives, who have very recently downgraded the unionists to a non-majority in the local assembly, for the first time since 1921 and due in part to the UUP’s pro-Brexit stance. I reckon it’ll be one of the easier compromises she’ll have to make. The EU will agree to a re-integration of NI along the lines of East Germany, and Spain will go along with that because it’ll indicate to Catalonia that there’s no future for regional independence.

The EU might favour a reunited Ireland but what would be their real feelings towards a newly independent Scotland? From a French point of view the ‘auld’ alliance is a figment of Caledonian imagination.

They’re off then. Good luck to them. Why should they sink with the rest of us.

To be fair to the SNP, the other option is to capitulate and fall in line with a dogmatic  hard Brexit Tory led UK government. With an unelected PM no less….
