Getting Together in Deux-Sevres

Looking for New Members

It’s not always easy making new friends when you move to a new area, or finding out where you can meet people with similar interests. You might need an English-speaking dentist or a good vet for your pet. Get Together is there to provide the answers in Deux-Sevres.

The group has been getting together for nearly 20 years, initially mainly British women married to French men, but with Move to Bin more English speakers moving into the department, the experience and local knowledge of these ‘pioneers’ was a valuable source to tap into. Monthly meetings included book swaps, walks and lunches.

As word about the group spread and membership increased to include French, Dutch and other nationalities, a monthly newsletter was produced to inform members about future events, and also to encourage them to organise activities themselves.

Seminars have been organised covering the French Tax System and completing French Tax forms and the complex French Inheritance Law.

Nowadays the calendar offers activities and events to suit everyone, including monthly walks to discover the area, pub quiz, treasure hunts, trips out to visit places of interest, a history group and monthly book clubs – so both the north and south of this elongated department are covered.

They are a friendly bunch, anyone is welcome, whatever nationality. www.getogether-france.org
