The allocation de rentrée scolaire (ARS) is a grant available to assist parents with the cost of schooling for children aged 6 to 18. This allowance is means tested, applicable to households under a certain level of income, and varies with the child’s age. It may help offset the cost of materials, text books and other provisions.
The grant is known as the ARS (Allocation de Rentrée Scolaire) and is paid around August 20th of each year. For the school year 2019-2020 the maximum income ceilings to qualify (taken from your declared income in 2017) are:
€24, 697 for 1 child
€30,396 for 2 children
€36,095 for 3 children
€5,699 or each additional child
If your income is slightly higher than the ceiling you may still be entitled to some grant on a tapered calculation.
The amount of the allocation de rentrée scolaire (ARS) are:
- 368,84 euros for a child age 6 to 10
- 389,19 euros for a child age 11 to 14
- 402,67 euros for a child age 15 to 18
To apply for this grant, if you have never received it before, get in touch with your local CAF (Caisses D’Allocation Familiales). More information and an application form can be found at www.caf.fr . If you have already received the ARS, you should automatically receive it this year for children between the ages of 6 to 16. For children between 16-18 years of age who have received the ARS before, you should make a declaration that your child is still attending school for the relevant school year. As an added convenience, the request can be made online under the “Mon Compte” field on the CAF site.
