Could You Work in Real Estate in France?

A new year brings with it the potential for a fresh perspective and new start. Could this be your year to make a real sea-change .. to bring your dreams about having a new home in the sun, a new career and new lifestyle to fruition?

If you have a passion for property and have always wanted to move to France – this could be the perfect time to start a completely new life.

A key to any successful move is finding a career and working with Leggett Immobilier could provide the perfect solution as we are France’s largest English real estate company and we’re currently looking for motivated people to join our team. Prior experience in real estate is not essential – what you will need is enthusiasm, a passion for property and at least a good working knowledge of the French language – after all you’re going to want to integrate to make the most of your wonderful new lifestyle!

Best of all, the market right now is buoyant and we’ve opportunities at some wonderful locations right around the country.

Leggett Immobilier’s co-ordinator in the Hérault, Claudia Gőtting, believes her area is the perfect place to combine a new career and lifestyle in France.

“Some call the Hérault the true South of France”, she says. “We have a wonderful Mediterranean lifestyle, beautiful homes and countryside without the prices of the French Riviera! And as for the climate – well we actually sat outside on Christmas Day at lunchtime in the sun – it’s a far cry from the UK in mid winter!”

And with its vast stretches of sandy coastline, the beauty of historic towns and villages coupled with mountainous hinterland, and hectares of wine producing vineyards, there’s heaps to see, do and experience here. The Canal du Midi winds through the medieval town of Béziers before finishing its coast to coast traverse of South West France spilling out into the sea near Marseillan – home of the famed aperitif, Noilly Prat. Sète is famed for its canals and waterside life as well as reputedly some of the best seafood in the country, while the university town of Montpellier, the capital of the Hérault, is one of France’s liveliest and most vibrant cities, just 20 minutes from the Mediterranean coast! For those who love the outdoor life there’s heap to explore. In the Minervois, to the south west of Herault, are the Gorges de la Cesse, here the river tunnels its way through the rock alongside the village of Minerve, once a Cathar stronghold, which becomes an unusual underground walking trail when the river dries up!

The Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Languedoc is to the north of the departement and it’s fantastic for outdoor activities – here you can explore mountain trails or take to the water on its beautiful lakes and rivers. All along the coast are wonderful sandy beaches – it really is the best of all worlds!

The Hérault is also well connected – it’s just two hours’ drive to Marseilles and the same to Barcelona, airports in Béziers and Montpellier are just a short flight away from the UK, while the TGV connects from Montpellier via Paris or Lille to St Pancras!

What all our agents find most appealing is the flexibility working with Leggett Immobilier provides “it really is the ideal way to combine your passion and interests while earning a good living!”

Stone property in France

One of our Herault team members, Lesley Sleigh, moved here some 20 years ago having firstly had, as she puts it: ‘a good look all over France’. She never tires of their beautiful surroundings, says they were welcomed into their village ‘with open arms’ and waxes lyrical about the history and architecture of this part of rural France. Her successful career with Leggett provides her with flexibility to carry on with other passions, which include dance – most especially tango and salsa which come with the additional benefit of many referrals from her dancing companions!

Claudia is passionate about the lifestyle of Hérault ‘you’re never far from the sea or mountains here and it’s a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere. There’s a wide variety of expats here – not just British, we’ve also Americans, Germans, Scandinavians and Dutch who have chosen to live here. The warm dry climate, the wonderful surroundings, history and beautiful properties all combine to create the perfect lifestyle! Such is the demand for our services in this fast growing market we really need more agents to work with us here!”
