We moved in here ten years ago to have “a good life”. And that is just what we did. We created a small smallholding. Along the way we have created pens for the small animals (goats, chickens and ducks), a pond for the fish with an area for relaxing with a gin and tonic (other drinks are available), ten raised beds for vegetables with two large polytunnels and a greenhouse, a small orchard for fruit and our bees and a cats’ room especially for the cats. And not forgetting the large lawn to play with our grandchildren and an area for swings and space for a 5m diameter summer swimming pool.

We have built a conservatory right along the back to raise our lemon, orange and cypress trees along with bird watching and relaxing. Outside we built a patio along the back of the house with a corner plot to house the spa and dining table for summer living.

Inside we have replaced all the windows and doors to eliminate any draughts and added a cosy log fire that sends its heat round the radiators making the whole house warm. The three bathrooms – one with bath and the other shower rooms, means that it is not far to freshen up and each of the four bedrooms can house a good double bed although we have been using two of the bedrooms as a self-contained gite to earn extra money.

At the front there is plenty of storage. We have two separate rooms for garden stuff and animal feed, a general store the size of a garage and room for two cars to fit nicely into their own garages. The other side of the house is a wood store (the size of a garage) and a man cave that takes up the size of four garages.

But the property is so versatile that it can easily be converted the way you want it to be.

The house is set in a small village in Pas de Calais with, to date, its own bakery but only a 5 minute drive away from the local town Auxi-le-chateau. This is a thriving village with two supermarkets, two bakeries, two hairdressers, three pharmacies, three places to eat but only one post office. This friendly, historic town is very pretty and boasts its own history around the town on easy to read boards in French and English. We are one and a half hours from Eurotunnel and just a little further to the ferries and 40 minutes from the beach with Paris being two hours away on the train.

The Somme is just over the river where there are some very important historical towns like Albert and Vimy Ridge. They are a great attraction for people looking for their final resting places during the last two World Wars.

But you really need to come and see the area for yourself. You will fall in love with it, just like we did and now we are passing it on to you.

Set in peaceful countryside but within a small community which is not far from a small village/town which boasts all the shops and services you need.  The commune itself only has about 250 people and boasts its own boulangerie and kindergarten.  The small town is 5 minutes away by car.  You can also reach major towns like Arras, Abbeville, St Pol and Hesdin in 30-40 minutes and the beautiful Opal coast in 40 minutes.   Travelling by train from Abbeville, you can reach the heart of Paris in under 2 hours.
