This beautiful region of Béarn/Navarre is well known to pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostella. It has so much going for it, principally the mild winter Atlantic climate and interesting historic old towns and villages in these foothills of the Pyrénées and along Basque country. Great food and famous cheeses, Jurançon and Madiran wines, and salmon fishing along the Gave d'Oloron, many fabulous golf courses, horse racing in the old Bourbon capital of Pau, tennis in most towns, walking and ski-ing in the Pyrénées, yet not far to the coastal towns and the seaside. Great for transport by train and planes too, not forgetting that Spain is on the doorstep.
