The department of Ariège is situated in southern France, bordering both Andorra and Spain and was once its own country. Ariège is in the Midi-Pyrenees region of France - a little known area that stretches from Comminges in the west, to the Principality of Andorra in the South, and then borders the Aude and Rousillon in the East.
Ariège is a stunning place, well worth visiting for a huge variety of outdoor activities as well as sightseeing and exploring Cathar History. The countryside is largely unspoilt and unpopulated. The capital of Ariege is Foix, a very small town with much charm. Two rivers and one huge rock surround the town giving it a very beautiful natural setting.
The local economy in Ariège is continuing to improve and property prices have risen in recent years. Despite the increase in property prices, the department is still one of the cheaper parts of Southern France in which to purchase property. We have some excellent properties available from country villas and mansions to town apartments and houses.
Toulouse airport is the main site for travel in and out of Ariege. Foix is only an hour's drive from Toulouse, both Easy Jet and British Airways run flights. Carcassonne airport is also only about an hour and a half from Foix and is used by Ryan Air.
There is a very good train service from Toulouse to Ax les Thermes, stopping first at Foix; it goes on to the Spanish border town of Latour de Carol, where you can change trains and continue on into Spain (the line goes to Barcelona).
