With temperatures below zero and large parts of the UK covered in snow it was, perhaps, surprising to see so many people had made the journey to Earl’s Court to attend the France Show in early January.
The links between this beautiful area of Normandy and England date back to William the Conqueror, the region being both his birthplace and the coast from which he set sail to the south of England in 1066.
Bayeux is a small medieval town in the heart of the Bessin area of Calvados. The picturesque centre with narrow cobbled streets, timber-framed buildings, 11th Century cathedral (not forgetting of course the tapestry which bears its name) understandably make this one of the main tourist attractions of the region. But the town has a strong identity of its own which makes it also a very practical place in which to live.
The Calvados coastline which runs west from Caen to Isigny sur Mer, along the Côte de Nacre (Ouistreham to Courseulles) and is also known for the D-Day landings, the whole coastline sometimes being referred to as the Invasion beaches.
