Michael WrightTells it like it is His new perspective on life, matched with a grim determination to make it succeed, make for quite compulsive and very entertaining reading.It exposes the reality of simple living at La Folie, a house minus a few of the modern conveniences he was once used to and clarifies the myth of a stereotypical 'ex-pat Brit in France' by introducing us to friends and neighbours. Here's a snippet. "When I first decided to come and live alone in the middle of the French nowhere, several of my London friends told me I was mad. "You won't be able to hack it," they said. "You'll be bored, the bureaucracy will get to you, and French women don't shave their armpits." I particularly enjoy the way he airs the darker thoughts other writers dare not. Michael explained to me:- "People sometimes imagine that I came to France with the purpose of writing a column about my experiences. But I had no such intention: I simply wanted an adventure, and to experiment with living in a richer soil than London, where I had worked as a freelance journalist for 15 years.
