Offsetting Your Carbon Emissions

An easy way to reduce greenhouse gasses.

Rain forest
Reforestation
The recent media coverage of climate change means that more and more travellers are deciding to 'offset their carbon emissions'. This is quick, easy and costs very little. Here's how it works...

Whether the current 'heat' wave is a terrifyingly quick change in climate or not, it makes sense to prevent more damage to the ozone layer. If you take plane journeys, you are adding to the carbon emissions which are damaging the ozone layer, but it is possible to offset this damage by supporting renewable energy projects.

Companies like Climate Care (Best Offset Provider 2006) calculate how much CO2 your journey will leave in the atmosphere, charge you a fee (London to Toulouse is £1.60), and use the money reduce the levels of greenhouse gasses. "We do this by funding projects that make emissions reductions." From new wind farms to reforestation, "our projects can also bring a wide range of other benefits to local communities, such as poverty alleviation, health benefits and increased biodiversity". You can also offset emissions caused by driving or heating your home. Find out more here.
