I am Jeanette Lough of "the Loughs". My husband, Brian and I moved to France from Scotland 2 years ago and have recently been joined by our 19 year old son, after 1 year in college in Scotland; he decided to join us here. He is fast on his way to becoming bilingual, plays football for the local team and loving life here. Our 2 daughters have so far resisted living in France; they live and work in Edinburgh, but spend as many holidays as possible with us. Bussiere Poitevine is in the Haute Vienne department of the Limousin exactly ? way between Limoges and Poitiers, almost on the borders of the Vienne and Charente departments of the Poitou Charente and not too far from the Creuse department of the Limousin. This is an area of gentle countryside, rolling hills and meandering rivers, and lakes, peaceful laid back and relaxing, yet less than 1hour from either Limoges or Poitiers, both with airports served by low cost airlines with daily flights to Britain and internal French flights, Poitiers also has TGV connections to Paris and London and we are less than 30 minutes to the A20 North/South non toll motorway.The countryside is dotted with little hamlets and larger historical villages, which hold bi-weekly markets and in the summer months, each have their own village fete, involving playing boules, dancing, eating "la champ", firework displays and generally having a good time. Many good restaurants can be found ranging from the upper market in Limoges, Poitiers, Bellac and even Le Dorat to the traditional "plat de jour" countryside restaurant. Though not a wine growing area, many excellent wines can be found and sampled and during our quest to sample life in France to the full, we do so quite regularly!
