La Gartempe is large and deep with very strong currents. It is full of many different species of fish and trout can still be found. La Gartempe is constantly looked after and cleaned which makes it easily accessible. Towards Châteauponsac and Rancon, the river is known “the salmon river”, not to be confused with trout.
Carp fishing and angling in general have always been popular sports with the British. So much so that there is now an increasingly large market for overseas fishing holidays....

We have lived here in the Limousin now for nearly three years and have noticed some interesting differences between French and British anglers, and their approaches to fishing.
Together with two good friends, Paul and Jess, I decided to go and fish La Mordorée, an old quarry now totally transformed into a magnificent stillwater trout fishery in the heart of the Charente, just 30 mins drive from us....

He is certainly right in saying that there are so many un-fished waters in the region. So much so, that it would be possible to fish a different one every day ...
