Château de Fontaine-Henry is a rare example of a stately mansion, which has been continously lived in by the same family as most châteaux
in France have been sold in the past or lie unoccupied. The present owners can trace their ancestry back over 900 years to when cousin of King Henry II, Guillaume de Tilly - Lord of Fontaine Henry, first built the fortified castle and chapel on the site. Now, Count and Countess d’Oilliamson have opened the doors of their beautiful ancestral home and invite visitors to enjoy guided tours, a range of costumed events and exciting exhibitions organised throughout the year.
Visits & Guided Tours
By day or by night, join one of the special tours of the castle with costumed guide and music of Rennaissance times. Step back in time and follow in the footsteps of the first Lord and Lady of Fontaine Henry. As you wander through the mansion, you can only marvel at the treasure trove of fine furniture, porcelain and works of art that the family have collected over the centuries, including masterpieces by Rubens and La Corège.
Then, take a walk in the beautiful landscaped grounds that surround the château. By day, you can relax in a leafy glade or play the garden games and puzzles enjoyed by our aristocratic forefathers. Over 30 giant wooden games provide hours of fun for all the family.
For children, the magical Jardin d’Alix
is not to be missed. Whilst the adults relax in the tea room or browse in the gift shop, the children will be introduced to the wonderful world of potting plants and each child will return safely with a special keepsake of their activity.
For groups and school parties, special costumed guided tours can be arranged that will give you a taste of life in the 16th century. Enjoy a cocktail or other refreshment as you soak up the atmosphere and experience living in Renaissance times.
