Property description
www.mauroulhouse.co.uk Handsome, comfortable, carefully restored old farmhouse on the edge of a picturesque hamlet nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains; ‘pool with a view’ and large, private terraced garden with a stream running thought it.
Ground/garden floor: large open-plan space: dining room with French door to breakfast terrace (sun rise), newly-installed pretty kitchen; cosy winter sitting room with fire to roast chestnuts and access to garden; bedroom/study, shower room, utility room and large, cool larder. 1st floor: 2 bedrooms with spectacular views, shower room, sitting room with balcony, access to terrace with heated pool and shady dining area. 2nd floor: 2 attic bedrooms, small sitting room. Various cellars where in the past sheep, goats and even a mule were kept, and small stable with hay-loft (conversion possibilities). The carefully restored seccadou (a little building where chestnuts were smoke-dried) houses garden tools/furniture on the ground floor and a children’s bedroom/hideaway in the attic (+ electricity and heating). Terraced garden with stream, pool and sitting places for all seasons/hours of the day.
Access to wonderful walking, river-swimming, canoeing, bird- and animal-watching. 15 minutes away is the historic village of Olargues, classified as one “un des plus beaux villages de France’; in the narrow streets you’ll find 2 bakers, butcher, grocer, wine store etc. Lots of other historic villages to visit, with colourful markets, delicious local products, and year-round festivals, from the Fete des Mimosas in Roquebrun in February to the November Fete des Marrons et Vin Nouveau in Olargues. The sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are an hour’s drive away, as is the Canal du Midi and the old city of Beziers, famous for its bull-fighting Feria in August - don’t miss the Friday flower market in the elegant Allees, shaded by plane trees and lined with cafes. Within 2 hour’s drive are the cosmopolitan city of Montpellier and the pink flamingoes, black bulls and white horses of the Camargues. 80 minutes from Beziers airport.
