Property description

Thollon-Les Memises is a relatively unknown Gem of the French Alp’s. Better known is the water called Evian, the source of which is not Evian itself but the mountain commune of Chez Cachat, Thollon Les Memises just outside this apartment in fact.

There are no ugly purpose built buildings and plenty of mountainside left untouched and protected. There are many amenities such as mini-markets, Bakery, Fromargerie, Bars and excellent Restaurants. The people are genuine locals and very friendly and family orientated.

In the winter Thollon boasts its own 'boutique ski resort’ with the most beautiful views to be found anywhere in the world. The view across Lac Leman (lake Geneva) is stunning and 'different' every time. The skiing suits families and beginners as well as advanced and nearly produced a French Olympian as the son of one of the restaurateurs learnt to ski in Thollon and so nearly made the French team at the last winter games. There is a fully equipped ski school which, by law, is of the same standard as any French ski school. In 2012 the ski lift system is being completely upgraded. Being an unknown smaller resort everything is cheaper, passes, hire, ski school, accommodation and cost of living. Once found few people move on from Thollon as it is so well placed for excursions around Europe. Indeed we are not moving out of Thollon as we have purchased a larger apartment in the village and have every intention to remain part of the village.

Major French resorts such as Porte du Soleil are an hour away (easy driving) and the likes of Verbier in Switzerland can be reached in an hour. A 'sister' resort to Thollon is a 10 minute drive in Bernex.

In the summer, if you like mountains and lakes you will love Thollon and the surrounding area. There are no end of activities for any age. We have spent an entire month in the summer and left with more to see and do.

Swimming in lakes, swimming pools, water skiing, sailing, boating, fishing, rowing, walking, boat trips on lake Geneva, Aqua-parks, mountain parks, tree walking, swiss rail tours, medieval villages in France and Switzerland, doing nothing but laying on the terrace listening to the cow bells. The list goes on and our children from the age of 4 until now , 13, still love it as much as us.

There are no tour operators promoting Thollon with most of the visitors being apartment owners, locals or self-catering visitors that hire apartments and chalets.

The Apartment

Large 3 bedroom apartment with open plan living area. The master bedroom has en-suite and a balcony. There are fitted wardrobes in this room.

There is a large entrance hall with a boiler/washing machine cupboard leading to a family bath room, a second bedroom and a bunk bed room. The 2nd bedroom leads onto a large child safe terrace. The living/dining and kitchen area has two balconies and wonderful panoramic views.

There is a parking space and a basement cupboard (a cave) for storage.
