Throughout the summer months hundreds of events and festivals take place across the Languedoc Roussillon - from small village fetes to large scale fireworks productions. Here we list some of this summer’s big highlights across the region - but don’t forget to check your local Mairie for details of smaller events happening near you! 
Start planning your year ahead in the region with our guide to the unmissable cultural and sporting highlights in 2008 across the Languedoc-Roussillon: from the Tour de France to the International Photojournalism Festival, from the traditional Fecos Carnival to one of the largest Fireworks display in Europe! 
Details of the 2008 Tour de France have been announced showing that the Languedoc-Roussillon is to feature in three key stages of the race as it travels from Lavelanet in the Ariege to Digne-les-Bains in the Alps. 
A visit to the Languedoc is incomplete without experiencing the local traditions surrounding bulls and horses. One of the high points of the Nimes calendar is the Feria, a festival lasting most of a week, focussed around the Arena where bullfighting (Corrida) in the Spanish tradition takes place. 
There is plenty to see and do in Carcassonne, and year on year the city administration arranges a multitude of events to cater for everyone, including the Christmas festival and the Fireworks at the Cité. Here is a list of the main annual highlights.
Montpellier, the capital city of the Languedoc Roussillon, has a fine tradition of artistic, cultural and sporting events throughout the year celebratin its status as a thriving and thoroughly modern metropole. Here is a look at some of the unmissable annual highlights. 
Nimes is a proud city which revels in its mutli-cultural history and heritage. Events throughout the year showcase the diverse cultures of the people who live here, from the famous bullfighting events, to live music featuring international artists - there is plenty for eveyone! 
Ambitious Perpignan, the Catalan city of the Languedoc Roussillon honours its traditions, such as the Holy Sanch Procession, and hosts internationally reknown events, such as the Visa pour l'Image photojournalism convention. 
Between February and November 2007 the Tourist Office at Banyuls-sur-Mer organises a range of cultural and sporting activites on weekdays and Saturdays, from Horse-riding to Vineyard tours at very affordable prices! Simply contact the Banyuls Office de Tourisme on 04 68 88 31 58 to get a copy of the schedules and to sign up to an activity or outing!
