Sailing in Brittany

Le Golfe du Morbihan is officially one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and the headquarters of “Les plus belles baies du monde” is now in Vannes. And the most popular time to visit? La Semaine du Golfe, the biennial sailing week which attracts hundreds of impressive boats of all sizes from around the world and thousands of visitors to enjoy watching them in full sail from the extensive coastline

In 2015 the week starts on Monday 11 May with a parade of boats sailing majestically through the entrance to the Golfe. The best place to watch is in front of the lighthouse in Port Navalo. When all the yachts have vanished into the distance, enjoy a delicious meal in a seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour, or at the reliable crêperie Ty Mousse at the top of the hill.

Hundreds of boats parade through Morbihan’s bays

Each small harbour hosts daily events and visiting sailors are welcomed with food, drink, music and dancing each evening. Admire and explore some larger boats in the port of Vannes where you will also find numerous bars and restaurants to relax and an unmissable market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

The week finishes on Sunday 17th with La grande parade. The boats process through the Golfe and thousands of onlookers enjoy the spectacle from the coastal path. A good place to watch is on the path anywhere between Arradon and Port Blanc. This year special guests are the Croatians, who will arrive with traditional boats from Dalmatia, from Zadar to Dubrovnik, and from Istria.
