Hi all. Not sure if this has been done on this Forum (and apologies if it has) but I have seen a discussion on a caravan owner’s webpage recently (can’t remember where exactly….) where travellers were reporting quality of their TV Satellite reception from their changing location.
I think it would help new and existing Forum members to have these info as a reference (ie. know that in Marseilles, Joe Guy receives channels such and such on a xyz cm dish).

I cannot help at the moment as I am in the UK but last November we were receiving all channels on a Zone 2 Sky mesh-60cm dish (76cm x 56cm). We are near Laguepie 82.

Please only state name of your nearest town. dish size (receiver if that important) and channels received (comments on reception quality are encouraged). Thanks.

Don’t think anyone is going to bother with thos when that information is pretty well covered all over the internet. why re-invent the wheel?

And it potentially changes tonight if BBC does indeed migrate to the new satellite

If you know where that is available please let me know. I haven’t seen any kept up-to-date report of geographical situation “v” quality of satellite TV reception and dish diameter. The last one I read on the caravaning website was from summer 2013. Hardly up-to-date.

I think this is a brilliant idea of a thread.

I will upload my stats in the morning.

Unfortunately what you’re asking for is useless for two reasons.

Firstly the current satellite footprint is not at all linear, there are dead spots and hot spots. We used to travel all over France while racing and the first thing after unhitching the caravan and putting up the paddock tent was the sat dish. From Valence to Nice, Bordeaux and Le Mans, signal strength was always variable.

The second problem as previously mentioned is that everything is about to change so any info will be out of date in a matter of weeks or perhaps days.

I thought the purpose of the thread was in relation to the Sat change that was made last night. Whilst its not an exact science, if everybody contributed their stats then it would show some kind of footprint.

There are reports that its Goodnight Vienna in some parts of Spain, Portugal and Germany this morning ! What about France ?

Damp squid in Touraine with a 60 cm dish and a vu solo receiver, every works.

    No ladders required today.

Nothing wrong with having this thread, especially today and the next few, providing the returns are used as a guide only. As I discovered recently, having a large dish is not the only requirement for a good reception.

As already said, there are cold spots and hot spots. Where we are – 100kms south of Toulouse – three of us with 1.1M dishes have lost BBC (I hope mine is down to fine tuning) whereas two just south of Toulouse have everything ok on a 1M dish.

The important thing will be to contain all the information in one thread, but I suspect there will be several different ones as the day progress..!

It could be fine tuning. When we had our dish setup, the guy who came round had a little digital machine with him. He said it was the best thing on the market for aligning a sat dish to the millimetre. He said also that in order to use this machine he had I think pay a yearly subscription.

Just north of Auch with a 1m dish: Some break-up on BBC1 earlier this morning but OK now. Have lost BBC HD channels though. Will try some fine tuning later.

Nice area with 90cm dish. Have lost the BBC HD channels, the rest are OK. When are the ITV channels moving?
