    Perhaps it’s the title of the post “Pretending to live in France” that gave people the impression…..

    Some people are lucky enough to have a home in both France and Britain – best of both worlds if you ask me! If you own a property here in France and you pay your taxes and buy local produce and pay the utilities then you are at liberty to pass comments about France, I reckon.

    If you were to examine my location in my profile, you might notice that YOUR interpretation puts me firmly in the “pretending to live in France” club. So, worst-case scenario, I’m not accusing anyone of something I’m not doing myself

    I’m going to let this go now because the thread is really not worth me missing breakfast over (and the hotel restaurant closes in half an hour) but I can’t help wondering :D why on a french forum you have given only a general french location (the Charente Maritime is a huge department) and yet been so specific over your UK location

    ps I don’t think there were any particularly aggressive responses (and certainly hope mine wasn’t perceived as such because that was not my intention). Just different viewpoints

    I can’t get to worked up about it until I find the person offering advice on banking/taxes/education..especially education, doesn’t actually have experience of the system 24/7/365. I’m still happy to listen to said advice but I appreciate a bit of “background”.

    That’s the point of these forums, isn’t it? As Mrs Merton used to say “Let’s have a heated debate”….

    I have a friend who is considering emigrating to the USA and has been on a couple of forums posting questions about life there and she was amazed at the diverse responses she got. I told here that if you replace “USA” for “France” you could have been on Total France!! :wink:

    Actually, my UK location is far from specific. “Lower Slough” doesn’t exist….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_People%27s_Manifesto :lol:

    :lol::lol:

    The I guess the question should be (tongue firmly in cheek) do you live in the place that is pretending to be Lower Slough, or are you just pretending to live there?

    But it does. It just happens to be more commonly known as Windsor.

    Well I completely agree with Janes. In 95% of the posts it doesn’t really matter where anyone lives. But it is galling when some people pass comment on life and living in France,when they don’t actually live here or only live here part time and don’t actually face the problems that those who do live and work here have to face on a daily basis.

    Just as it’s annoying to be told that everything in France is wonderful by someone who has retired here,is living on a private income in an isolated rural property and who’s only real contact with French life is picking up the bread each day.!

    Goodness me, some really paranoid responses! Why should anyone feel guilty or somewhat fraudulent about not actually living in France, that would warrant leaping into offensive/defensive mode of the “mind-your-own-business” variety.
    Maybe the question is too close to the bone for some, who need the fantasy that they are living in France, and get annoyed at any attempt to burst their bubble?
    It is all a bit bizarre.

    I notice that about half the responders on this site don’t bother to enter their location anyway!! Wheter it’s France or UK or both.
