It's always been my understanding that you can do upto 90 days within 180 days which can be done twice but that's with a period of 90 days in between each one. You can't do more than a total of 180 days in each year. This is of course for people not in the EU or no longer in the EU.

As this gift is given by a UK donor to a French tax resident, we have to look at the tax rules of both countries. Unless there is a tax treaty, the French tax authorities will usually tax gifts if the beneficiary or the donor are French tax residents or if the assets gifted are located in France. However, the French tax authorities allow some tax-free amounts to be given to relatives every 15 years. Some presents are also exempt from inheritance taxes. The French tax authorities will also only tax gifts to a donee who has been living in France for at least 6 years out of the last 10 years. As you moved to France in 2019, there should be no gift taxes on this gift by a UK donor. Even if no tax applies, this gift should be declared to the French tax authorities. UK inheritances tax rules will apply. The UK does not tax gifts made to help an individual with his living costs. The following conditions must be met: the amounts given must be regular payments which the donor can afford after meeting his own usual living costs and these payments must be made from the donor’s regular monthly income. In addition to these payments, your donor can give you up to £3,000 each year tax free. This annual exempt amount would have to be split if your donor wants to give money to several individuals. The payment can go up to £6,000 if the donor has not made a gift in the previous tax year. If the amounts given do not meet the above conditions with regards to UK inheritance taxes, then the amount will be a potentially exempt transfer. UK inheritances taxes may be due if the donor dies within 7 years of the gift.
